For many fans, He-Man was an unforgettable part of childhood through the classic animated series that introduced the world to Eternia, Castle Grayskull, and the legendary battle between He-Man and Skeletor. After the release of the 1987 live-action film Masters of the Universe, starring Dolph Lundgren, the franchise developed a strong cult following despite mixed reviews. Now, nearly four decades later, He-Man is finally returning to theaters once again with a brand-new live-action reboot.

The first full trailer for Masters of the Universe has officially been released, offering fans their first major look at the upcoming fantasy adventure. The film stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man and Jared Leto as the iconic villain Skeletor. The movie is directed by Travis Knight, best known for directing the well-received Bumblebee.

The trailer reveals a fresh take on He-Man’s origin story. In this new version, Prince Adam was secretly sent to Earth as a child in order to protect him from Skeletor’s forces and the devastating war taking place on Eternia. His legendary Power Sword was also hidden on Earth, and the trailer shows Adam finally discovering it inside what appears to be a comic or tabletop game shop after years of searching.

Once Adam reconnects with his destiny, he returns to Eternia alongside a team of heroes determined to save the planet. The film introduces several fan-favorite characters, including Camila Mendes as Teela and Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms. During the action-packed battle scenes, Adam transforms into the mighty He-Man using the power of the sword, setting up an epic confrontation with Skeletor. The trailer also confirms the film’s theatrical release date — June 5, 2026.

In recent years, the franchise has remained active through several animated projects, including Masters of the Universe: Revelation and various CGI reboots released on Netflix. However, this new live-action adaptation appears to combine classic fantasy elements with large-scale sci-fi visuals to create a modern cinematic version of the beloved universe.

The cast also includes several major stars, such as Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Fisto, and Kristin Wiig as Roboto. The screenplay has been written by Chris Butler, Dave Callaham, and filmmaking brothers Aaron Nee and Adam Nee.

One of the most impressive aspects of the trailer is the expanded scale of Eternia itself. Instead of focusing only on Castle Grayskull, the movie showcases massive battlefields, destroyed cities, lush forests, and aerial combat sequences that hint at a much larger world. The trailer also gives fans their first real listen to Jared Leto’s version of Skeletor’s voice. Unlike the classic high-pitched and nasal interpretations of the villain, Leto appears to use a darker and more sinister tone, reminiscent of his performance as the Hatbox Ghost in Haunted Mansion.

Alongside the movie announcement, Amazon and Mattel have also revealed a new video game titled Masters of the Universe: Legends Unite. The couch co-op game will launch on Amazon Luna on the same day as the film’s release and will be available at no additional cost for Prime subscribers. Players will be able to build decks featuring iconic Eternian characters and defend Castle Grayskull in competitive battles.

With nostalgic appeal, an ambitious new storyline, and modern blockbuster visuals, Masters of the Universe is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated fantasy films of 2026.
