Matt Murdock’s life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will never be the same again following a major twist in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 8, “The Southern Cross.”

In an interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley, Charlie Cox shared his reaction to the storyline where Matt publicly reveals that he is Daredevil, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. Cox admitted he was surprised when he first heard about the decision, noting that such a reveal is difficult to reverse. However, he embraced the bold narrative choice, praising Marvel’s willingness to take risks and deal with consequences later.

Cox also reflected on the deeper meaning behind Matt’s intense confrontation with Kingpin. He described Matt as someone constantly striving to be better, motivated by the belief that if people aimed for their best selves more often, the world could improve.

By the end of the episode, Matt ends up in prison, raising questions about his future—especially potential team-ups with Spider-Man. With Brand New Day approaching, Cox acknowledged that bringing the two heroes together now would be complicated but remained intentionally vague about what lies ahead.

Meanwhile, Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Karen Page, described the twist as an exciting evolution for the series. She emphasized that the show avoids repetitive storytelling and instead pushes characters into new territory. With Matt’s identity exposed, the central question becomes: who is he now?

Woll also highlighted that Matt’s reveal was not solely to save Karen but to protect the city and defeat Fisk, reinforcing his larger mission. However, this doesn’t mean their relationship will become any simpler moving forward.

Showrunner Dario Scardapane hinted that season 3 will explore whether Matt and Karen are truly meant to be together or drawn to the drama of their relationship. He also teased the possibility of revisiting Karen’s connection with The Punisher, adding another layer to the dynamic.

Although Jon Bernthal did not appear in season 2, fans can expect his return in The Punisher: One Last Kill, an upcoming Marvel Special Presentation set to release on Disney+ on May 12.

Finally, Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum revealed that Matt’s identity reveal emerged during the development of season 2. Drawing inspiration from the comics, the creative team felt this direction was inevitable, making it a natural endpoint for the season’s story.

With Matt’s secret exposed and his future uncertain, Daredevil: Born Again is setting the stage for a dramatically different chapter in the MCU.
