Last year, Jurassic World Rebirth was released in theaters, and now a new update has arrived that has made fans extremely excited. According to recent reports, the dinosaurs of Jurassic World are preparing to roar once again as a sequel to the film is officially in development.
The Jurassic World franchise has become one of the most successful branches of the larger Jurassic Park universe. The modern era of the franchise was first led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, whose performances helped establish a successful Jurassic World trilogy. Their final appearance came in Jurassic World Dominion, which also featured the return of original Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum.
In 2025, the franchise introduced a new chapter with Scarlett Johansson leading Jurassic World Rebirth. The film became another box office success and immediately sparked speculation among fans about whether the story would continue with a sequel.
Now, according to a report from Deadline, a sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth is officially in development. However, no release date or additional production details have been revealed yet.
The movie featured an impressive cast including Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. Although the film became the lowest-grossing entry in the Jurassic World franchise — being the only installment that failed to cross the $1 billion mark — it still performed strongly at the global box office. The movie earned approximately $869 million worldwide.
Reports suggest that the film was made on a budget of around $180 million, meaning it needed to earn between $360 million and $450 million to break even. In the end, the movie comfortably crossed that mark and generated hundreds of millions in profit for the studio, making a sequel almost inevitable.
Audience response to the movie was also largely positive. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film received a critics score of 50%, but viewers responded more positively, giving it an audience score of 70%. While the reception was mixed among critics, fans generally enjoyed the film.
In a review published by ScreenRant, critic Mary Kassel described Jurassic World Rebirth as one of the franchise’s most meaningful entries in years. She praised the cast performances and highlighted the film’s energetic and thrilling action sequences. Kassel also noted that it was refreshing to finally see the Jurassic franchise centered around a strong female lead.
While Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing played an important role in the original trilogy, most of the action hero moments belonged to Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady. This time, however, the spotlight was entirely on Scarlett Johansson’s character, Zora Bennett.
In the story, Zora Bennett is a skilled mercenary who teams up with Mahershala Ali’s Duncan Kincaid and Jonathan Bailey’s Dr. Henry Loomis for a dangerous mission. Their goal is to travel to an abandoned island and collect DNA samples from the largest dinosaurs of land, sea, and air.
By the end of the movie, the team successfully completes the mission. Henry and Zora then decide to make their findings open source so the dinosaur DNA can be used worldwide for medical advancements and life-saving treatments.
However, the sequel could take the story in a much darker direction. With such powerful dinosaur DNA now publicly available, there is a strong possibility that dangerous individuals or organizations could misuse the technology, potentially unleashing a new wave of chaos and destruction in the Jurassic universe.
